About us
Who are Shirley Aldred?
Here at Shirley Aldred, established in 1796, we are the original and exclusive manufacturer of the Cardiff Aldasorber. Developed in the 1970s at the Cardiff School of Medicine, the Cardiff Aldasorber is extensively employed in both the medical and veterinary sectors worldwide. All of our Medical Filters are tested to the highest possible standard without fail, and are compliant with Regulation (EU) 2017/745.
Purpose
The Cardiff Aldasorber actively scavenges exhaled and waste Halothane gases from the operating theatre environment, thus minimising the effects of long term exposure to Halothane based products. This device plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of both medical staff and patients during surgeries.
Performance
The Cardiff Aldasorber in normal clinical conditions will provide between 6 and 18 hours of adsorptive capacity. This is dependent on the gas flow and concentration of organic anaesthetic agent utilised. The exhaustion point is indicated by the weight gain of the unit and should be disposed of after 200 grams of weight gain.
Quality
The Cardiff Aldasorber Medical Filter is built to be durable, featuring a poly-laminated outer layer that can be easily cleaned. It can be conveniently attached to any anaesthetic equipment using an appropriate duct or expiratory valve. The connector is made to fit a standard 22mm anaesthetic tube from the duct or expiratory valve. Shirley Aldred are ISO 9001:2015 accredited.
What is the Cardiff Aldasorber?
The Cardiff Aldasorber is a specialised anaesthetic gas adsorber. It is canister containing activated carbon, which actively scavenges exhaled and waste anaesthetic gases. The filters advanced design allows the Aldasorber to capture and retain these gases, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment in medical and veterinary settings.
